Chicago White Sox: The Story So Far

The Chicago White Sox came into being in 1901 as the Chicago White Stockings. However, it wasn’t long before the current shortened name was officially adopted. They were one of eight charter franchises making up the American League (AL).

The South Side Park served as the White Sox’s first home before they moved to the Comiskey Park in 1910. This remained their home ballpark for the next 80 years until the Guaranteed Rate Field was constructed in 1991.  

Accomplishments and Top Players

One of the most storied MLB franchises, the White Sox have won 3 World Series crowns, 6 American League Pennants and 5 Division titles. Their maiden World Series triumph came in 1906. That generation of Sox players was known as the “The Hitless Wonders” due to their defensive approach.

The next win came in 1917 when The South Siders got the better of the New York Giants in six games to lift the Commissioner’s Trophy. That team had Eddie Collins, Joe Jackson and Eddie Cicotte in its ranks.

After this victory, The Sox had to wait until 2005 for another World Series title. This time, they made history by becoming the first team to go all the way under the guidance of a Latino manager, Venezuela’s Ozzie Guillén. The team included the likes of Paul Konerko, A. J. Pierzynski, Mark Buehrle and World Series MVP Jermaine Dye.
