Fans are anticipating what will become of this match between Cameroon and Mexico. Some are expecting Mexico to triumph over Cameroon, 2-0, judging by Cameroon’s performance in the match against Portugal. But then again, there are others who say Cameroon was merely testing the ground they stood on, with fresh tactics and new players. Samuel Eto’o remains a significant threat for all of Cameroon’s opponents on the field.
He began gathering fame and credibility in his Madrid days. Eto’o had his name on the list of successful players in the Champions League final held in 2000. He had more active part in his two Champions League wins with Barcelona. And not to forget his three Super Cups, the FIFA Club World Cup, four domestic league crowns and his Olympic gold medal to wrap it all up. Samuel also snatched up silver at the Turkish League and Turkish Super Cup, adding to his collection of English League Cups and Premier League titles. Cameroon also has Alexandre Song to its credit, an experienced midfielder who has had the good fortune to have played with some of the biggest clubs in the world.
Mexico is an extremely strong contender for the FIFA Cup as well. It almost didn’t make the cut to qualify to compete in the FIFA World Cup, but overcame everything and now fans will get a chance to see the team in action in Brazil. The Mexican team’s coach, Miguel Herrera’s strategy paid off during Mexico’s qualifying match, and EL Tri put their shaky state behind. Mexico went on to a 9-3 aggregate win, and so qualified for the finals for the fifteenth time. It was in 1970 and 1986, both times on home soil, that Mexico made it as a quarter finalists. Players to be looked out for on the Mexican front include Javier Hernandez, Giovani dos Santos and Andres Guardado. The Mexican team won the FIFA U-17 World Cup, which was held in Peru in 2005. They also won the FIFA Confederations Cup, held at home, in 1999.
