Formed in 1972 as the Atlanta Flames, the franchise moved to Calgary in the year 1980. This was when they adopted their current name. Ever since their inception, they have clinched various awards including 2 Presidents’ Trophies, 5 Division championships, 1 Stanley Cup and 3 Conference championships. The Calgary Flames LP currently owns the team while Brian Burke is their General Manager. In their initial years, the team played their home games at the Stampede Corral arena. However, in the year 1983, they switched to their present home venue, which is known as the Scotiabank Saddledome.

Mark Giordano, the team’s Captain, is heading them in the current season under the supervision of their Head Coach, Bob Hartley. Flames Foundation is the team’s non-profit charity organization, through which the team has donated over $32 million for various uplift programs across Alberta.   

Various former players of the Calgary Flames have been inducted in the Hockey Hall of Fame. Lanny McDonald was the first player to be inducted in the year 1992. During his association with the Flames, McDonald scored 215 goals in 492 games while Joe Nieuwendyk was the last player to be inducted in June, 2011.
