This New York based baseball team always tries to deliver its best in the field. Being a minor league baseball team, it plays and kicks off its competitors in the International League. They are currently affiliated with the New York Mets. Playing at the Coca Cola Field in downtown Buffalo, this team always knows how to create hype among its fans. Making sure they deliver their best, this team is definitely worth spending your hard earned money on.
The history of the team dates back to somewhere in the nineteenth century. To be more exact, it was at the tail end of it, in 1879. In the year 1986, the team became member of the original International League and moved into the minor league. The team was originally a major league club that later shifted to a minor league.
Due to poor attendance and the worsening condition of the stadium, in 1970 the team transferred to Winnipeg, Manitoba, as the Winnipeg Whips. The Bisons were bestowed with a new life when the ownership of the team bought the Jersey City Franchise of the Class Double-A Eastern League. The Bisons were then asked to shift to the city. After remaining with the Eastern League for six seasons, the Bisons joined the AAA ranks in 1985. It was during this time span that the team joined the American Association when the Wichita Aeros franchise rights were transferred to Buffalo. After the 1997 season, the American Association folded; hence Buffalo Bisons sought refuge in the International League, whereas its rivals in the American Association joined the Pacific Coast Leagues.
The Buffalos have managed to climb the success ladder with quite an impressive career graph. Over the years, they have scored many victories to be proud of, including 6 championships of the International League. They also took home the Governor’s Cup and the inaugural Cup. The Bisons have tasted success in the IL north Division four times since 1998.
Bisons’ fans get to witness the Buster T. Bison, which happens to be the main mascot of the team. You’ll see this bunny rabbit dressed in Bison’s jersey and cap accompanied by his little cousin, Chip. Both theses bunny rabbits dress alike. In 2006, a new mascot was introduced to the Bison’s fans known as Belle the Ballpark Diva. This bunny Diva is accompanied by a fellow dressed in garish loud colors known as Johnny $tyles, the reporter. The team has many other mascots as well, such as the "MicroChip" who happens to be smaller in size and younger in age than Chip and Buster. The mime known as "Loudmouth" is another of the team’s mascots. "Howie the Ump’ was another official mascot of the team. His costume was much similar to chips and Busters but of a human umpire, this one existed only during the 1997 season. The team is owned by Bob Rich Jr. who operates the team as well. The team is managed by Ken Oberkfell.
The Buffalos have showed off several future stars of baseball, big names like Grady Sizemore, C.C. Sabathia and Travis Hafner have been part of the Buffalos.
