Tenacious D was the brainchild of two American musician friends who happened to meet in Scotland while on a music tour. They both belonged to a theater troupe called The Actor’s Gang that was based in Los Angeles. Tenacious D was founded in the year 1994 in Los Angeles by Jack Black and Kyle Gass. Black is the lead singer as well as the rhythm guitar player whereas Gass is the lead acoustic guitar player. Tenacious D is accompanied by session musicians on tour such as Dave Grohl on drums, John Konesky electric guitar, Steve McDonald bass and Page McConnell on Keyboards. Tenacious D released the first album in the year 2001, this was a self-titled album released by Epic Records. The album charted at #13 in Australia, #18 in Ireland, #33 on US Billboard, #19 in Sweden and #42 in New Zealand. This album went Platinum in the US and Gold in UK and Australia. The second album came out in the year 2006 called The Pick of Destiny, this proved to be an even better effort and the overall chart position improved and the album landed at #9 in Ireland, #10 on UK and #8 on US Billboard. The Pick of Destiny earned a Platinum certification in Ireland. Tenacious D is all set to release the third studio album namely Rize of the Fenix very soon in the year 2012. The Complete Master World is a compilation of Videos of Tenacious D that interestingly sold over six million copies alone in the US earning a 6x Platinum status, it also managed to earn a platinum status in Australia by selling one million copies.

Tenacious D has appeared and performed as a duo in a number of movies like Saving Silverman, School of Rock, Cradle will Rock, Bio-Dome and The Cable Guy. Jack Black has acted in a number of films like Tropic Thunder, King Kong, High Fidelity, Orange County and Nacho Libre. Tenacious D has performed their popular single "Pick of Destiny" on extremely popular late Night with Conan O’Brien and the 2006 American Music Awards. The band has performed in various countries like New Zealand, Australia, Cana0da and UK. The popular singles of Tenacious D include "Tribute", "Wonderboy", "POD" and "Rize of the Fenix". The band has also appeared in a movie by the name of Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny that was directed by Liam Lynch and released by New Line Cinema.
