Their second album was released in 1985 and was called, "Songs From the Big Chair." The album contained hit singles like "Shout" and "Everybody Wants to Rule the World." They were soon looked upon as the leading acts of their genre at the same time their album sales did such an exceptional business that the duo ultimately became stars in the music industry. There was no follow up to second album and fans got to hear more of their infectious tunes after a while. Tier third album was called, "The Seeds of Love" had a tinge of jazz rock to it. The album did a superb business. During the start of the nineties Smith left and the band was left pretty much over Orzabal?s mercy, who managed to pursue sophisticated directions targeting audiences on a smaller scale.
As far as Smiths solo career was concerned that too did not go very well. Prior to the release of "The Seeds of Love" Smith got divorced adding greatly to his frustrations. After the hiatus he shifted to New York City and released his solo album, "Soul on Board," in 1993. The album turned to be a complete disaster and Smith himself admitted during various interviews that he despised it and went on with making it only to fulfill his recording contract. He next ventured into a forming a partnership with local songwriter and producer, Charlton Pettus. It was decided that they would be writing simple based melody songs and record them at home on Vintage based analogue equipment.
However as the new millennium approached things once again took a drastic turn for both the artists. In 2000 both Smith and Orzabal had to come into contact due to some routine paperwork. The artists met an after a brief awkward silence they both decided to work together again. Till date this duo has sold over thirty million album copies worldwide. The duo has inspired many to follow their footsteps and formed the basis of inspiration for the very successful Australian pop duo, Savage Garden.
The pop duo has released a total of six albums which include, "The Hurting," "Sings From the Big Chair," "The Seeds of Love," "Elemental," "Raoul and the Kings of Spain," and last but not the least, "Everybody Loves a Happy Ending." All these albums did a splendid job, yielding hits like, "Break It Down Again," "Cold," and "Good Night Song."
