Raised in The Bronx, which was a borough in New York City, Prince Royce was born to a poor family, his mother working at a beauty salon, and his father being a taxi cab driver in New York. He was the second oldest child out of four siblings, and had an interest in music from a very young age. He took part in various talent competitions in school, and was part of the school choir while he was still in elementary school. He started to write poetry when he was thirteen years old, and soon developed a knack for songwriting. Prince Royce began his career in music in the year 2009, when he was offered a recording contract with a recording label called Top Stop Music. He signed the deal, and went to work on his debut album the same year. The album was titled Prince Roy, and was completed and released the following year, being produced by the manager of Top Stop Music label, Sergio George. Prince Royce's debut album went on to become a major hit, reaching the number one spot on the Billboard Tropical Albums chart, and becoming popular both with the critics as well as the audience. One of the most popular songs from the album was its lead song, Stand By Me, which was actually a cover song by Ben E. King, who was the original performer and composer of the song. The cover song peaked at the number eight spot on the Top Latin Songs chart, and number one of the Latin Tropical Airplay chart.

Another song from his debut album that went on to become a huge hit was titled Corazón Sin Cara, which was the second single from his album. This went on to become largely popular, making the album an even bigger success. The album gained a nomination for Best Contemporary Tropical Album at the Latin Grammy Awards. Soon after the success of his debut album, Prince Royce was offered a recording deal with the famous recording company called Atlantic Records, which he accepted on the 17th of May, 2011. He is currently working on his upcoming album with the same label.

Prince Royce 's music is usually described as revolving around the genres of R & B, bachata and Latin pop, although the young artist grew up listening to a wide variety of genres such as rock, hip hop, rap, techno, pop and various more as well, all of which have an influence on his music one way or the other.
