Maurice Starr, the famous producer, formed the band in 1984 and gathered the members together. The band comprises of Donnie Wahlberg, Danny Wood, brothers Jordan Knight and Jonathan Knight and Joey McIntyre. The band reached its peak in the early 1980s and late 1990s with all their albums and singles topping all music charts and receiving multiple certifications.

This multi-award winning band has not only made music in one genre of music but in several of them. From pop to R&B to hip hop to teen pop to new jack swing, these boys have done it all. Today, the band has a total of 7 studio albums, 6 compilation albums, 23 singles, 15 music videos and 4 DVDs. The debut album released by them in 1986 called New Kids on the Block reached the number six position on UK music charts and also received 3x Platinum certifications from United States and Canada and Silver certification from UK.

Then came Hangin’ Tough in 1988 which went further than its predecessor and topped the charts in U.K and United States. It also achieved Gold certifications from Finland and Germany along with 2x Platinum, 8x Platinum and 10x Platinum certifications from UK, US and Canada respectively.

Other albums followed suit by topping the music charts and receiving multiple Gold and Platinum certifications. This streak of success continued till the group’s 5th album. After that the group disbanded in 1994 and although a lot of efforts were made towards reformation, however all of them failed.

Then 14 years later in 2008, finally the band reunited and released an album The Block. It topped charts in Canada and also received the Canadian Gold certification. Since then the band has been releasing more albums and singles and continues making music to this day.

New Kids on the Block are all set to hit the road with The Total Package Tour. The summer trek will have special guests Boys II Men. Besides it will also feature television star Paula Abdul. This is the first time she’ll be going on tour in 25 years. The much anticipated upcoming our will kick off in May with a show at the Schottenstein Center in Columbus, Ohio and run through a total of 43 cities in North America. It will also mark the band’s first ever performance at Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl.

The heartthrob of the ‘80s, New Kids on the Block came out with new music for the fans in the form of their extended play, ‘Thankful’ in 2017. The EP contained five songs on the track-list including, One More Night, Heartbeat and Still Sounds Good.  It also featured a bonus track with DMX titled, We Were Here.

The guys are not going to slowdown their pace anytime soon as New Kids on the Block announce North America tour with special guests. They are scheduled to start ‘The Mixtape Tour ’ with Salt-N-Pepa, Naughty by Nature, Debbie Gibson and Tiffany by performing their first show at the US Bank Arena in Cincinnati on May 2, 2019. They will then go on to hit the stage in cities like, Cleveland, Indianapolis, St. Louis, Memphis and New Orleans before they end the trek on July 14, 2019.
