Mastodon started off in 1999 when the band's drummer Brann Dailor and guitarist Bill Kelliher met the bassist-vocalist Troy Sanders and guitarist-vocalist Brent Hinds in a show named High on Fire. The members met and simply clicked each other so well that they decided to work together as a band.

Blood Mountain was the first album to come out from under the umbrella of Warner Bros. The album's release followed a tour by the band of the entire Europe.
