Initially, the Linkin Park band experimented with their style of music with rap metal and nu metal. The band then adapted both the genres to a radio friendly yet heavily layered style in their albums Meteora and Hybrid Theory. The album that followed these two albums of the band by the name of Minutes to Midnight which was released in 2007, also explored different kinds of genres. In 2004, the band began to work alongside with Jay-Z in order to produce a remix album which was titled as the Collision Course. This album of the band gave a new touch and feel to their music as it had intermixed background tracks as well as lyrics from both the previous albums of both the artists?. As a side project, Shinoda created a new band by the name of Front Minor. With Jay-Z?s help, the Front Minor ended up releasing its debut album The Rising Tied. The album received much critical acclaim. While all of this was happening, the affiliation that the band had with Warner Bros. Records began to deteriorate quickly based on numerous financial and trust issues. After several month of disagreement from both the parties, the band finally ended up in a negotiation deal with Warner Bros. Records in December 2005.

Coming back to the albums which gained the fame and popularity that Linkin Park enjoys today, Meteora and Hybrid Theory blend in the elements of nu metal, alternative metal and rap rock. There are also sounds in these two albums that are taken from electronic, hip-hop and alternative rock. The band has finely incorporated the method of programming and the use of synthesizers as well. Rolling Stone has described the band?s music as "risky, beautiful art". In their album Minutes to Midnight, the band has successfully tried out and experimented with their already formed sound and have gained great influences from a much bigger and more diverse array of styles and genres. It has been a procedure that the Los Angeles Times has compared to a phase in the famous Irish pop-rock band U2?s work. In Minutes to Midnight only two of the songs in the album have elements of rap and the rest of the album can be deemed as a profound work of great alternative rock.
