Gucci Mane began rapping at the early age of fourteen. Let’s take a look at how this star emerged from such a young age to arrive at the stage he is now.
Gucci Mane’s Career
Gucci Mane started off by releasing a song called “Black Tee” in response to a Dem Franchize Boyz hit single “White Tee”. Soon he collaborated with fellow local rap artist, Jeezy for the track “So Icy”. After the release of these two songs, the hip hop artist managed to land a record deal with Tommy Boy Records and began work on his debut album, Trap House.
Trap House was released in 2005 and eventually made it to the top 20 of the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Album charts. Enjoying the moderate success wave from his debut album, the artist started preparing for his second masterpiece. Gucci Mane’s second album, titled Hard to Kill, was released in 2006 and included the famous single “Freaky Gurl”. This song enjoyed success on several charts in the US and reached the second spot on the Hot Rap Tracks.
In the next year, Gucci Mane released an official remix of “Freaky Gurl” featuring two famous artists, Ludacris and Lil’ Kim. This track was made a part of his first commercial album, Back to the Trap House. Following the release of this, Gucci Mane signed on to Warner Bros. Records in 2009. He made appearances on remixes of hit songs such as “Boom Boom Pow” by the Black Eyes Peas and “Obsessed” by Mariah Carey. The year 2009 saw him make a total of 17 guest appearances. In the same year, the artist released his next album, The State vs. Radric Davis. Hit singles from this album included “Spotlight”, “Wasted”, “Bingo” and “Lemonade”.
The next work from Gucci Mane was titled, The Appeal: Georgia’s Most Wanted and was released in September, 2010. Following this, in March of 2011, the artist released his 10th EP, The Return of Mr. Zone 6. This EP debuted at number 18 on the Billboard 200 and was Gucci Mane’s highest charting EP. After this, the rapper released two consecutive collaboration albums, Ferrari Boyz and BAYTL, followed by two successful mix-tapes.
In early 2013, Gucci Mane released one of his most anticipated mix-tapes, called Trap God 2. Three more mix-tapes later by the end of March, the artist was making waves in the music industry. In the same month, Gucci Mane announced that he would be releasing another studio album, Trap House III. He said that this would be the third and final version of his famed Trap House series. The album was subsequently released in May of 2013, along with the announcement of another album’s release towards the end of the year.
However, things did not go as planned as Gucci Mane got into a whole series of dramatic situations with various members of 1017 Brick Squad and Brick Squad Monopoly trading shots back and forth on Twitter. In the social media battles that followed, Gucci Mane went on to criticize a whole bunch of top rappers including Nicki Minaj, Rockow, Polow da Don, Yo Gotti, Tyga and T.I. He later apologized for his remarks and checked himself into rehab. His 10th studio album, The State vs. Radric Davis, came out in December 2013, while he was in prison. He was released from prison in May, 2016. He released a new single the very next day, aptly titled “First Day Out The Feds”.
