Dua Lipa
Dua Lipa was born to a Kosovar father and Albanian mother in the United Kingdom. Lipa studied in the acclaimed Sylvia Young Theater School, which is known for producing talents such as Amy Winehouse and Rita Ora. At age thirteen, she moved to Kosovo with her parents but returned to the U.K at age fifteen to pursue a career in music.
She released her first demo in 2012 which came on Lana Del Rey’s management team’s radar. She was linked to Emile Haynie, a manager for Bruno Mars and Lana Del Rey, and from there Lipa’s rise to fame began. Her debut single “New Love” allowed her to be listed on BBC’s sound of 2016.
In 2016, Dua Lipa released the singles “Hotter than Hell” and “Blow Your Mind” and then embarked on her first tour through the spring as well as summer. “Hotter than Hell” reached the Top 20 in the U.K. The solo tour too was a sold-out tour which showed off Lipa’s incredible stage presence and vocal ability in a live setting. The tour helped Lipa gain a public image and fan group, which has been growing since.
Lipa’s Aesthetic
Lipa started out with a modeling career in the U.K which led her to develop a unique sense of style. The clothes she wears and the way she chooses to present herself is distinct and immediately noticeable. This physical outlook began translating into her music once she began releasing it, and she has created a mysterious persona around herself as a result of it.
Everything from her music videos to her official website displays vibrancy which is reiterated into the upbeat, melodramatic music. Songs such as “Last Dance” and “Hotter than Hell” simply propel audiences to feet, dancing and brandishing their glow-bands in the dimly lit theater. Lipa’s live performances are often accompanied by light shows and neon graphic displays as her backdrop which adds to the theatricality of the show. A Dua Lipa performance is anything but session musicians on stage; it is n extravaganza waiting to be witnessed.
2017
2017 has been a great year for Lipa’s career as it began with three of her songs charting the U.K simultaneously. “Blow Your Mind” also topped the Billboard dance charts in the U.S which gained the signer international recognition. Through her label, she was asked to be Bruno Mars’ opening act at her 24K Magic tour, which she has concluded on a high in September. Now, the “New Love” singer is focusing on her solo tour, the largest at the scale she is performing on.
Dua Lipa: The Self Titled Tour
“The Self Titled” tour is headed to Europe, the United Kingdom, America and Canada throughout 2017 and 2018. It has stops booked in theaters as well as arenas, and Dua Lipa is more than familiar with both venues. Opening for Bruno Mars has equipped her for large crowds and it is expected that audiences in these venues will be plenty. Dua Lipa tickets for most of these venues have been announced however, since the tour could go on for over a year, there may be newer shows announced in the future as well.
Lipa on her New Album
It is strange that despite all of this success, the singer has not yet officially released an album. However, talking to Bazaar magazine, she mentioned that she has in fact been working on an album for two years now, and it’s mostly complete. She simply hasn’t had a time to put the finishing touches to it yet because of the constant tours she is going on. The artist also mentioned that she wants to collaborate with others in the industry on this album, and perhaps duet with many more as she has done in the past. She assured her fans during the interview that the album will be released very soon.
