Coming into the limelight
Anthrax entered the metal scene in 1981 when the New Yorker, Scott Ian formed the group with Dan Lilker. The duo later recruited the vocalist, John Connelly, bassist Paul Kahn and drummer Dave Weiss to the band. After many lineup changes Anthrax debuted by releasing their first studio record titled, ‘Fistful of Metal’ which came out in 1984. In 1985 the group recorded their extended play, ‘Armed and Dangerous’ and a few months later their second studio record, ‘Spreading the Disease’ hit the shelves.
The band received minimal success during their initial years but they soon started attracting the fans of rock music in the late 80s. Their EP, ‘I’m the Man’ arrived in stores through Island Records in 1987. The extended play was awarded platinum certification in the United States as it sold over one million copies in the country. Moreover, it climbed to the 53rd spot on the Billboard 200 and received positive reviews from the critics. Their third studio effort, ‘Among the Living’ later hit the stores to critical praise. It was included in Revolver’s list of the, ’14 Trash Albums You Need to Own.’ The record was certified gold by the RIAA.
Enjoying International Fame
After the release of their third studio record, Anthrax came out with three consecutive gold selling albums, ‘State of Euphoria,’ ‘Persistence of Time’ and ‘Sound of White Noise.’ All of these albums also recorded gold level sales in Canada and were praised by the critics. Rolling Stone published positive reviews regarding, ‘Persistence of Time’ and describe the album as, ‘a foray into the dreary, gray bowels of urban hell.’ It also got them a nomination for a Grammy in the category of ‘Best Metal Performance.’
Their sixth studio record, ‘Sound of White Noise’ churned out four singles, Only, Black Lodge, Hy Pro Glo and Room for One More out of which the former was praised by Metallica’s lead vocalist, James Hetfiled who referred to as a, ‘Perfect Song.’ The single also reached twenty sixth spot on the Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks.
Stomp 442
In 1995, Anthrax’s seventh studio effort, ‘Stomp 442’ hit the music stores. The album marked their second release through Elektra Records and offered many great tunes to the fans of rock music. It was also supported by two singles, Fueled and Nothing. Their next record, ‘Volume 8: The Treat is Real’ saw the light of day in 1998. It produced a single, Crush which was featured in the videogame, ‘ATV Offroad Fury.’
Anthrax went on a five year hiatus after 1995 and returned to the limelight with their new album, ‘We’ve Come for You All’ in 2003. The record achieved both commercial and critical success.
For All Kings
Anthrax’s tenth record, ‘Worship Music’ came out in 2011 to great critical reception. The album spawned four singles out of which, I’m Alive got them a nomination for a Grammy in the category of ‘Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance.’ The song also earned them a Kerrang! Award for ‘Spirit of Rock.’ It also received three and a half stars out of five from The New Rolling Stone Album Guide.
The group went on their second five year hiatus after releasing ‘Worship Music’ and made their comeback in 2016 by coming out with their eleventh studio album, ‘For All Kings.’ The record entered the Billboard 200 at the ninth spot and also climbed to the twenty first spot on the UK Albums chart. It gave three singles and sold in excess of seventy three thousand copies in the US.
Now, to support their most recent studio effort, Anthrax is going on a tour and will be putting together a powerful performance in your city soon. Attend the show by having your Anthrax tickets in hand and sing along with them live.
