“This musical is not about my stardom. It is about the journey I took to get there,” says the global icon Tina Turner. She made her humble beginnings in Nutbush, Tennessee. She rose to prominence in the 1960s with Ike Turner whom she was married to at the time. Together they basked in the glory of hits like A Fool In Love and River Deep – Mountain High. But behind the face of stardom was an ugly story. Her relationship with Ike Turner was volatile and often she had to endure abuse. It was in 1978 when she divorced him to channelize her energies into a solo career.
Solo Career
Not only did Tina manage to carve out a successful solo music career but became the global Queen of rock ‘n’ roll. The revered singer won a whopping 12 Grammys. The singer has sold more concert tickets than any other solo performer in music history. Turner gave some of the most successful hits of her career during this time. Her single What’s Love Got to Do with It released in 1984 and became her biggest hit winning her four Grammys. In 1991, she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
