The Hills Are Alive!

The Sound of Music is based on the book by Russel Crouse and Howard Lindsay. The story is essentially the memoir of Maria von Trapp which was entitled, The Story of the Trapp Family Singers.

In 1938, Maria takes the job of a governess to a large family of children and their widowed father, Captain von Trapp. Based in Austria, Maria decides to take this job while she tries to determine whether or not she wants to become a nun. While working as a governess to the family, she falls in love with all of the children and soon finds herself falling in love with their father too. Captain von Trapp is ordered to take on a post in the German navy but he decides to oppose the Nazis. Instead, Maria and the family plan to flee Austria.
