The four girls to be featured in the show are Betty Jean, Missy, Cindy Lou and Suzy. All of them have been nominated for 'Queen of your Dreams' title of Springfield. Every girl in the play has her own distinctive character that makes her unique in one way or the other. Betty Jean is the group's clown, struggling to gain Cindy Lou's attention. Cindy Lou is known to be the group's bad girl. Missy is the over achiever, covering others' mistakes and jumping in to save the day whenever she can. Suzy is the perky one; she is also a little silly and a little giddy. Everything silly is fun for her and she finds pleasure in it, making her one of the most exciting and unique characters of the show.
The original cast included in the Off-Broadway consists of Beth Malone as Betty Jean, Victoria Matlock as Cindy Lou, Farah Alvin playing the role of Missy and Bets Malone as Suzy. The musical was first performed in 2008 in New York. Roger Bean and Brian William Baker served as musical directors and also took care of the vocal arrangements. Janet Miller was the choreographer of the play with Roger Bean as the director. The original show was successful and received positive fans reviews. Following the musical's success an idea of making a sequel was given which resulted in the production of Winter Wonderland. The sequel included the same lead characters along with some new songs like Jingle Bell Rock, Winter Wonderland, Santa Claus is Comin' to Town and Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree. The musical won numerous awards such as Franklin R. Levy Award for Musical Intimate Theatre and 2009 Gypsy of the Year Awards in the category of Top Fundraising Off-Broadway Company.
The story incorporates the jukebox style of music where well-known songs tell the play's story. It is a thoroughly entertaining show that has managed to attract a massive fan following. It includes thirty songs which are choreographed beautifully. The cast members have pulled off the entire musical really well. The melodious tunes will make your toes tap, mouths sing and heads bob as the cast members perform on them. Darcia Tipton, the set designer creates a high school auditorium using the stage, giving it a reality touch with the school mascot, the chipmunk. Costumes are designed by Barbara McFadden and she did an awesome job with the colored crinoline skirts and white go-go boots. Everything in the play goes together- the storyline, songs and sets match with each other and the play as a whole is a delight to watch. Be prepared to laugh hysterically! It is suggested that you bring along your loved ones and enjoy an evening full of entertainment with them.
