The 1985 American mega hit film ‘The Breakfast Club’ stage adaptation is soon to hit a theatre in your city. As entertaining as the movie, the play is packed with loads of emotions and drama. It focuses on the themes of friendship, sharing and stereotyping, and will take you back to your high school days. So grab your share of The Breakfast Club tickets now and get set for a trip down the memory lane.
Considered as one of John Hughes best works, the movie has won several awards and nominations. This sensational teen-flick was also regarded as one of the best high school movies of the era. Based in the Shermer High School of Chicago Illinois’s suburb of Shermer, this story teaches a lesson of standing up to what is wrong and looking past the stereotypes created by the society.
The plot of the movie revolves around five high school students who belong to different cliques and though they now each other by face, they have never interacted directly. One Saturday when they have a detention to attend together, for the first time they get to talk to each other. That one day changes their lives forever as they begin to see life with a different perspective.
The five students named Andrew Clark ‘the athlete’, ‘the princess’ Claire Standish, Brain Johnson ‘the brain’, ‘the basket girl’ Allison Reynolds and ‘the criminal’ John Bender apparently have nothing in common. They have been stereotyped by the society into different categories and have been brought together by fate for a day. When the five of them meet up for their detention one Saturday morning at the library, they are instructed by the school’s assistant principal Richard Vernon. Vernon constantly looks down upon the students thinking them to be nothing more than worthless offenders and continually boasts about his authority and power over them.
As a punishment, they are ordered to neither talk nor sleep or move for approximately nine hours. During this time, they are to write a thousand words essay describing who they think they are themselves and hand it over to Vernon. John and Vendor mutually hate each other so John decided to disobey him and not write the essay. Instead, he starts abusing and discouraging the others who are doing it like Andrew, Brain and Claire.
All five of them spend those nine hours talking and arguing amongst themselves when unexpectedly they open up to each other and learn how very wrong they had previously thought each other to be. It turns out that Andrew dislikes his father, Claire despite having the image of a slut all over the school is actually a virgin, John has complex family issues, Allison is a big liar and Brain has tried committing suicide in the past. The five of them have stressed relationships with their families and with their parents in particular and they are drawn together by this common problem.
However, towards the end, in spite of their growing fondness for each other, all of them fear the end of the detention when they will have to go back to their own separate groups and won’t get to talk to each other again. What follows forth is an interesting climax which shows how this day changes them forever and how they choose to look and live beyond the tags put upon them by the society.
To sum up, a highly entertaining and heart touching high school play awaits your presence. Come experience The Breakfast Club for yourself and guarantee yourself an amazing time. So book your share of The Breakfast Club tickets now.
