Sylvia Tickets

Date & Time

A.R. Gurney's 1995 comedy “Sylvia” made quite a stir at New York's Daryl Roth Theatre in August 2015 as the star cast and members of the creative team set out to find a perfect face for the titular character. The drama, about to make a Broadway debut in October, has the actual role of the dog being played by a human, but a real dog was needed for the art work. The venue saw dozens of puppy-owners pouring in on August 3 with their canine pets to audition for the prestigious role. After hours of tedious auditioning, the panel narrowed down the pool to eight adorable pups but ultimately fell for a New Jersey native Maltipoo, Alfie. The lucky one-year old will now be featured on the show's promos, with a picture to be built into the set and revealed at the end of each performance when the owner looks at his photo. The Sylvia tickets for the Broadway revival will soon be available so make sure you plan accordingly.

Sylvia- on the Road

A romantic comedy by Gurney, Sylvia features the mid-life crisis of a middle class couple from New York. The drama had its first Off-Broadway production at the Manhattan Theatre Club in 1995. After successful productions in Los Angeles and Massachusetts, the play is now slated for a grand premiere on Broadway in October. The drama will have a preview on October 2 and will officially open at the Cort Theatre on October 27, 2015. The performances will continue for four months with the concluding show on January 17, 2016. Amidst queries and questions about the Sylvia tickets, news of performances in Chicago is also circulating. The Auditorium Theatre at Chicago will host the play, shows scheduled between October 16 and 25. You don't want to miss this side-splitting dog-and-human comedy that will soon be gracing venues near you.

“Man's Best Friend”

Sylvia is a tale about a “man's best friend”, a dog. Taking the age-old proverb quite literally, the drama depicts a middle class couple, Kate and Greg, battling the mid-life crisis until they have a new member at home. No not a baby, but an adorable pooch that Greg stumbles upon while he goes for a walk at Central Park. Promptly adopted and named Sylvia, Greg brings the dog home which gradually becomes his confidant. Jealous of the attention her husband bestows upon Sylvia, Kate can't resist but hate the innocent canine to the point where she starts plotting to get rid of her. The light-hearted drama brings the audience to a gripping climax where Grecg finally has to make a choice between the two females in his life.

“Sylvia” Commands the Tonys

One of the most humorous of all shows coming to Broadway this year, “Sylvia” brings the best of a star cast. A troika of Tony Award winners are coming together to perform as the three main characters in the drama. The anthropomorphic Sylvia will be played by Annaleigh Ashford, one of the most entertaining and talented comic actresses in theatre today. Ashford succeeds Sarah Jessica Parker in the coveted role that the latter actress played in 1995. Julie White, “The Little Dog Laughed” actress seems to have a thing for dogs. “Sylvia” would probably become White's second play that has something to do with the faithful animal. White was an active member of the panel that selected the dog at Daryl Roth, which shows her love for them, but ironically plays the detesting Kate on stage. Last but not the least, Tony Award winner Matthew Broderick plays the helpless hubby, Greg.

A Broadway Breakthrough

Entertaining theatergoers for more than a decade, “Sylvia” attains a much-awaited breakthrough with a Broadway appearance. Directed by Daniel Sullivan, A.R. Gurney cleverly brings out the whimsical dynamics of an otherwise lackluster marital relationship. With set designs by David Rockwell, lighting by Japhy Weidman and costumes by none other than Ann Roth, “Sylvia” is ready to wow the audience at New York and Chicago this year. There's no reason to miss this exciting comedy especially when it comes to your city!
