Stomp was created by Steve McNichols and Luke Cresswell in Brighton, United Kingdom in 1991. At that time, the creators of Stomp used to perform as members of a theatre group called Cliff Hanger and a street band called Pookiesnackenburger. These groups presented a series of street comedy coupled with dance and music. The audience loved their performances and the band gained a large fan following.
During their first appearance at the Bloomsbury Theater in the United Kingdom, Nicholas and Cresswell directed and financed the first Stomp show that later won the Best of the Fringe Award. Initially, seven members were part of the show but later the lineup were increased to eight. Sarah Eddy, David Olrod, Nick Dwyer, Carl Smith, Fraser Morrison, Theseus Gerard and Luke Cresswell were among the first performers of Stomp while Fiona Wilkes was a new addition. All eight performers are extremely talented artists.
Over the following years, Stomp was performed in various countries and captivated audiences in all corners of the world. A special Stomp show, featuring 30 performers was created for the Brighton Festival. The same year, the play was performed at New York’s Orpheum Theatre before a large audience and here too, the show was a huge success.
