Steve Martin began his career as a standup comedian in the late 1960s. For almost fifty years, the talented artist has entertained people of all ages and still looks to be going strong.
Comedian
Steven Martin’s first major gig was as a writer on The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour in 1969. He won his first Emmy Award at the age of 23 for his work on the show. After working several small time gigs, Martin started appearing regularly as a standup comedian on popular television shows like The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson, The Muppet Show and Saturday Night Live.
Based on his success as a television personality, Martin released several comedy albums during the 70s. Most of them were certified platinum and spawned famous catchphrases like “Just a wild and crazy guy” and “Excuse Me.”
Actor and Musician
Martine moved on to acting after establishing himself in the entertainment industry. His first commercial success was the 1979 hit, The Jerk, while other hit films to feature him include Little Shop of Horrors, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Father of the Bride, Parenthood, Cheaper by the Dozen and Pink Panther.
As a musician, Martin is one of the most respected banjo players in the world and has done tremendous work to promote bluegrass music all over the world. Over the course of his music career, Steve Martin has won five Grammy Awards.
