Singing In The Rain Tickets

The plot of this musical follows the same storyline as that of the original movie on which it is based on. The narrative of the show depicts a romantic tale between the lead character Don Lockwood, his best friend Cosmo Brown and the leading lady, Lina Lamont. Lina Lamont is an aspiring actress who is struggling her way to stardom due to the fact that her less-than dulcet vocals end up in making her a rather unsuitable aspirant for fame in talking pictures.

The original London production of Singing in the Rain was premiered on the 30th of June in 1983. This was a West End production that took place at the London Palladium. The director of the play was Tommy Steele and the choreography was done by Peter Gennaro. The show was a success and ran for two years till 1985 at the London Palladium.

On the 2nd of July in 1985, the musical was successfully showcased on Broadway at the famous George Gershwin Theatre. The show ran for nearly a year and was shut down on the 18th of May in 1986. The Broadway production ran a total of 367 shows and 38 previews. The play was directed as well as choreographed by Twyla Tharp. The props on the set were designed by Santo Loquasto, and the costume designing was by Ann Roth.

In 2000, it was decided to create a London Revival of the show. A new production was created and showcased at the Olivier Theatre now known as Royal National Theatre. This show began from the 2nd of June in 2000 till 20th July, 2000. The show again ran from the 18th of December in 2000 till the 27th of January in 2001. This particular production of the play was a shift from the West Yorkshire production which effectively started from December 1999 till February 2000. The direction was done by Jude Kelly while the choreography was done by Stephen Mear. The leading lady was played by Rebecca Thornhill who played the role of Lina and she received a nomination from the Olivier Awards for her impeccable performance.

Singing in the Rain also premiered at the well known Sadler’s Wells Theatre which ran from the 29th of July in 2004 till the 4th of September in 2004. This production was directed by Paul Kerryson and was choreographed by Stephen Mear.

Finally the show was revived once more in 2011 at the popular Chichester Festival Theatre. This production of the show starred Daniel Crossley, Adam Cooper and Scarlett Strallen. The choreography was done by Andrew Wright. Wright was given a nomination for an Olivier Award for his commendable work. He is now running the London’s West End show at the Palace Theatre.
