Artistic Director – Slawomir Wozniak
Born into a ballet family, Slawomir Wozniak started studying ballet at a young age of 11. He’s been a part of many productions with the national opera house, even winning awards for his talent.
In 1986, Slawomir Wozniak made his professional debut at the Wroclaw Opera. Featuring as the Prince Charming in Cinderella, the production was choreographed by Teresa Kujawa. From 1986-1988 he worked at the Wroclaw Opera House and it was there that he met his future wife. The duo’s performance in Swan Lake swept the audience off their feet and is remembered still by many.
In 1989, Wozniak joined Phoenix Ballet as the guest artist and in 2007 he was made the Artistic Director. His extensive experience as a choreographer, performer and teacher has made him a popular name in the world of ballet. Through desire and passion, and destiny, Slawomir Wozniak embarked on this journey as a child and now he has made it his mission to fulfill his love for ballet as a teacher.
The Nutcracker at the Orpheum Theatre
The soaring sales of Phoenix Ballet tickets means that the theater buffs are ready to kick off the holiday season with a little magic. There’s a fresh and new sparkle on Phoenix Ballet’s The Nutcracker as it runs through December 2018.
Joyful yet precise choreography, ebullient dance and delicate design elements make The Nutcracker a heightened sensory experience. The new production brings together on stage internationally recognized dancers like Madison Penney, Bel Pickering, Tia Wenkman, Misha Broderick, Tegan Chou and Basia Rhoden, along with the talented students from the Master Ballet Academy. Under the direction of Slawomir Wozniak, they mesmerize with their skills and grace.
The highlights of the performance remain the serene snowfall on stage, dancing mice and the endearing Sugar Plum Fairy. The Arabian coffee dance is performed with much sensuality and the Chinese Tea dance shines as an engaging segment. The chemistry between the dancers says a lot about Wozniak’s sense to pairing as each performer beautifully complimented their partners.
Cherish the authentic production by Phoenix Ballet that offers unadulterated entertainment, joys of simple things and celebration of the holiday season. Reeking of warmth and grandeur, The Nutcracker impresses on all levels.
