The festival's first edition featured a number of fascinating arts exhibits and installations. Kanye West is one of the headliners of this year's Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival. Born in Atlanta, Georgia, but hailing from Chicago, Illinois, he is a hip hop artist who is known for his chart topping singles and bestselling albums. He is a rapper, singer, songwriter and record producer.

Outside of music, he is also a director, entrepreneur and fashion designer. He has been active since 1996 and his music is notable for a signature style in which he uses vocal samples from classical songs and incorporates them in his own songs. His first album came out in 2002 and has since been followed by five more. He is one of the best selling artists in history, as well as one of the most decorated of all time.

Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers will also be headlining this year’s festival. A rock band from Gainesville, Florida, they have been active since 1976 and are regarded as living legends today. Pioneers of the heartland rock movement, their classic rock albums   have sold over eighty million albums worldwide, ranking them as one of the best selling bands of all time. Outside Lands chooses the third most visited park in America, the Golden Gate Park as its venue every year.
