One Man, Two Guvnors is the English adaptation of an Italian play named as ‘Servant of Two Masters’. It was written by the famous playwright from Venice- Carlo Goldoni. One Man, Two Guvnors premiered in 2011 at the National Theatre, London. The show continued for almost four months and then went for an extensive tour across the country. The enchanting story of this show revolves around the main character Francis Henshall, who is employed by two separate men at the same time. James Corden plays the role of Henshall in the stage production. Two other key characters include the employers of Henshall, Roscoe Crabbe and Stanley Stubbers (local gangster and a criminal respectively). Henshall tries to keep the two away from each other so that they don’t get to know the truth. The director Nicholas Hytner has executed the plot superbly and songs in the play are performed in the style of ‘skiffle band’ by The Craze.
‘The feel-good hit of the summer’, One Man, Two Guvnors was seen in multiple cities during the year 2011, including Edinburgh, Birmingham and Salford. Then it moved to the West End, at the Adelphi Theatre in November 2011 and was scheduled to continue till September 2012. In April 2012, the marvelous production hit the Broadway stage at the Music Box Theatre, premiering in front of large audience. James Cordon still plays the main role and received two nominations including one at the Tony Awards in the ‘Best Actor in a Play’ category, in which he ended up winning.
