Nunsense has been retelling the comical tale of an accident and an interesting makeup at Hoboken, a one-time missionary order on an island south of France. Five little Sisters of the convent become a part of a hilarious set of events, that takes them aboard a roller coaster ride of misadventure. Stuck amidst a fundraiser and trying to make it a success, a twisted tainted vichyssoise by Sister Julia Child of God leads to a show stopper. The entire sisterhood of nineteen nuns and fifty-two convent students consume it to face botulism and consequently death. The remaining clan of five lucky ones tries to remain calm and continue by raising money for the burial. But all in vain…

While the sisters lie in the deep freeze Sister Leo, Sister Robert Anne, Sister Mary Amnesia, Sister Regina and Sister Mary Hubert come together as the new sisterhood for the departed sisterhood. They get up to show off their talents as a part of a talent show and raise the money not for the fund but to arrange a burial for the unfortunate ones. Mount Saint Helen's School auditorium’s stages the five headed by Mother Superior Mary Regina. As an ex-circus performer, she finds it hard to resist her temptation to hit the limelight. Similarly, Sister Mary Hubert and Sister Robert Ann struggle with the seduction of their past’s streetwise charm. Sister Mary Leo’s background as a ballerina pushes her to go forward and enjoy ballet. The nativity of the amnesic Sister Mary Amnesia bothers in her very own capacity leaving her in a tussle within and without herself.

The original Nunsense became a hit when its curtain raiser and following four day premier extended to a thirty eight week duplex. It went on to be presented for another decade off Broadway at the Douglas Fairbanks Theatre. Nunsense’s hilarity and appeal allowed it to be translated into twenty six other languages and took it to stage eight thousand performances worldwide. Huge critical acclaim came to the show when it won four Outer Critics Circle Awards in the categories of the Best off-Broadway Musical, Best Book and Best Music. Nunsense enjoys being the second longest running show off-Broadway.

Samuel French Inc’s Nunsense: The Mega-Musical Version brings a truly brilliant spinoff of the 1985 original. The fist of five surviving sisters has been casted with male and female actors and Samuel French Inc’s execution of the story with this cast is more witty and vibrant than before. Interestingly another feature, Sister Julia as the convent cook is presented as farcical operator at work. The musical also has a chorus consisting of men, women and children lending appropriate voices to the old and new songs has added magnitude of depth to the music delivered. One Last Hope is a highlight of the new music and is quiet enjoyable. The additional of two full length dance numbers, featuring add on from the original have outshine as highlights of the show.
