The Origins

The idea of these endlessly entertaining and delightful L.O.L. Surprise! Dolls came into existence in the troubled and insomniac mind of MGA Entertainment CEO Isaac Larian in 2015. Larian had spent the last decade court battling over the intellectual property rights of Bratz – another precocious and incredibly successful line of dolls. His hungry-for-a-win thought process led him to browse product-reveal videos online and a light-bulb went off. Larian’s direct orders to his design team were “We need to make the ultimate unboxing toy”. The idea then turned out to be a multifold surprise package, beginning with an opaque box keeping the buyers in surprise until the last moment the package is unwrapped. Then come the delightful surprises of unwrapping every accessory adorned by the vibrantly colorful dolls. And then there are even more surprises in the form of hidden functions that these dolls can do, for instance squirting water or showing skin designs when put under water. L.O.L. Surprise! Dolls were launched in December 2016 and by December 2019 MGA Entertainment had made over $4 billion in retail sales of this toy line.
