John Waters was born to a Catholic family in Baltimore. He fell in love with the world of movie making at a very early age. He started off by studying the art of film making keenly all on his own. His next step was to make 8mm movies in the beginning. From there he shifted gears and ventured into the world of sixteen millimeter films. John Waters debut film was Mondo Trasho in the year 1969. He followed that up with Multiple Maniacs later that year. That film took its inspiration from the murders of the Manson Family.  More productions like Pink Flamingos and Desperate Living turned him into one of the most famous names in the world of gore and violent movies. It was in 1981 that Waters made a deliberate effort to move into the world of mainstream cinema with the movie Polyester. Waters movies have tilted towards the mainstream audience from that point onwards. His movie Hairspray was converted into a super successful musical that went on to win multiple Tony Awards in the year 2003.

Waters has since then gone back to the controversial movies that gave him his big break but those ventures have been few and far in between. Waters is also an avid reader with a huge collection of books that goes well over eight thousand.
