Premiering on Broadway is the Hedwig and the Angry Inch musical, which debuted in 1998 Off-Broadway. Its music was composed by Stephen Trask who also wrote her lyrics. John Cameron Mitchell wrote the musical's book, basing the story partly on his life, with the character Hedwig inspired by her babysitter. Ever since its premiere, the musical has seen productions all over the world in cities such as London, Los Angeles and Sao Paulo. It has been staged as far away as the Czech Republic, Sweden, Taiwan and Argentina with many Hedwig and the Angry Inch tickets sold all over the place. 

Hedwig and the Angry Inch is one of the most talked about musicals on Broadway today. The musical has the music and lyrics by Stephen Trask. Its book is penned by John Cameron Mitchell. The musical premiered on off-Broadway in 1998, followed by a production in Boston. Since then, productions of the musical have taken place each year, in cities such as Los Angeles, London, Cleveland, UK, Greece, South Korea, Peru, Australia, Sweden, Argentina, Germany, Vancouver, Czech Republic and Taiwan. The musical is now all set for its Broadway premiere, for which many have purchased Hedwig and the Angry Inch tickets.

Hedwig and the Angry Inch is an award winning musical that has won many awards including an Outer Critics Circle Award and an Obie Award. A popular rock musical, it follows the story of fictional rock band. Written by John Cameron Mitchell, the play is inspired heavily by his life as the son of a major general in the US army. His father commanded part of the US occupied West Berlin and his babysitter was a German woman and the divorced wife of a US Army soldier. She also worked as an escort, on the side, and was the inspiration for the character Hedwig.

The main character of Hedwig and the Angry Inch is heavily inspired by the glam rock of the seventies, with its music particularly influenced by that of David Bowie, Iggy Pop, John Lennon and Lou Reed. Incidentally, Bowie was also the Los Angeles production's co-producer. The musical debuted at the Jane Street theater in the Hotel Riverview, where the surviving members of the Titanic's crew had once lived. Peter Askin was the original production's producer and director, leading it to many sensational performances. The Off-Broadway production had performances for two years and won many awards, including the Best Off-Broadway Musical from Outer Critics Circle Award and the Village Voice Obie Award.

The music of this show is fantastic to say the least, featuring the likes of Fleetwood Mac, Television, Yoko Ono, Wreckless Eric, David Bowi, Pere Ubu, Cher, Velvet Undergorund, Mott the Hoople and Debby Boone.

Till now, many renowned actors have played the role of Hedwig. These include Tony Award winning Michael Cerveris, Ally Sheedy of Brat Pacl fame, Rent's star Anthony Rapp, Kevin Cahoon and Gene Dante. International productions have featured the likes of iOTA, a popular Australian performer. Renowned glam rockstars have also played the role, including Donovan Leitch Jr.

In Canada, the musical has seen productions simultaneously in Vancouver and Edmonton. These were held in 2003, with yet more productions held after. These include several sold out productions including the Ghost Light Projects' production in Toronto in 2009 and the Pickled Productions' production in 2007. In 2010, the musical saw widespread performances across Latin America, in Puerto Rico and San Juan, with Gil Rene playing Hedwig. The same year, the musical was staged at Edinburgh, Scotland's George Square Theatre during the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Some performances of the musical also took place in Brazil.

In Prague, the musical was staged at AKANDA in 2011, as well as at the Bangkok University in Thailand later on. Performances of an earlier Brazil production continued in 2011, running for twenty five performances. The production continued in Rio de Janeiro in 2012, followed by a tour in Curitiba and performances in Curitiba. In the US, productions were held at the Boxcar Theatre in San Francisco in 2012 and in 2013, in Columbus, Ohio. The musical has gained a huge fan following, who call themselves Hedheads, and even been adapted into a popular movie.
