The company was created in 1972 under Sally Seven who was the Artistic Director at the time. It developed its Summerfest School in order to produce talented dancers in 1983 and later joined Grand Rapids Civic Ballet. Today, the company entails more than 20 dancers, trainers as well as apprentices from all over the world, who work under Patricia Barkey, the Artistic Director. Not only this, the Grand Rapids Ballet School includes over 200 students who are taught by these talented dancers. The Dance Immersion Program introduced by the company includes over 1500 students who are trained freely in the introductory sessions. These dancers include Megan DeMuro, Dawnell Dryja, Connie Flachs, Darrell Haggard, Steven Houser and Cassidy Isaacson. Other wonderful performers include Dave Naquin, Yuka Oba, Scott Pascal, Monica Pelfrey, Rachel Riley, Stephen Sanford, Laura McQueen Schultz and Nicholas Schultz. Hannah Wilcox, Kyohei Giovanni Yoshida, Isaac Aoki, Gracie Huber, DJ Strong, Demi Trezona, Morgan Frasier, Keely Lytton as well as Caroline Wiley are also a part of the ballet company’s lineup.
