He is known for producing songs which feature a blend of different genres including, regional Mexican, banda, Narcocorridos and Norteño. Getting things started
Born in Pasadena, California, Gerardo Ortiz Medina or simply known as, Gerardo Ortiz is a superstar in both South & North America. He was raised in Culiacan, Sinaloa, Mexico. Ortiz grew up with a strong passion for music. In 2009, he made his debut by releasing his first live album on Del Records titled, ‘En Vivo Las Tundras.’ It featured twelve songs on the track-list.
Gerardo then decided to record his first full-length album. After finishing work on his first studio effort, ‘Ni Hoy Ni Mañana,’ he released it in 2010. This LP made him an overnight sensation. The album became so successful that it was nominated for a Grammy Award in the category of, ‘Best Norteño Album.’ It offered a bunch of singles like, En Preparación, La Última Sombra, A la Moda and El Trokero Lokochón all of which turned out to be massive hits across the world. The LP also reached the top five of the Billboard Top Albums chart.
Next year, Ortiz churned out his second record, ‘Entre Dios y El Diablo.’ It featured influences of Latin pop and conjunto. The album received favorable reviews from the critics as AllMusic gave it three and a half stars out of five. He also released his second live record, ‘Morir y Existir En Vivo’ in the same year.
El Primer Ministro
Gerardo’s third studio effort, ‘El Primer Ministro’ hit the markets on July 10, 2012. The album reminded everyone why he is considered one of the most talented songwriters around. It gave many popular tracks like, Don Chalo, La Moneda and Soy Caro. Moreover, this LP earned him his second Grammy nomination. The critics were also impressed with his work on, ‘‘El Primer Ministro’ and AllMusic gave it three and a half stars out of five.
As his third studio effort was smashing music charts everywhere in the world, Ortiz immediately started to record new material and in November of 2013, released his fourth LP, ‘Archivos de Mi Vida.’ The album brought him even more success. A year later in 2014, he found himself as a judge alongside Latin Grammy Award winner, Ana Bárbara on the eleventh season of Estrella TV’s talent show, ‘Tengo Talento, Mucho Talento.’
As 2014 came to an end, Ortiz revealed his plans of dropping his latest studio project in 2015. He later announced that his album, ‘Hoy Más Fuerte’ will hit the shelves on May 19, 2015. When the album was finally released, it had the fans hooked almost immediately. It featured hit songs like Millones de Besos, El Amigo, El Tito and Fuiste Mia. The LP also collected positive reviews from AllMusic who gave it four and a half stars out of five.
Comere Callado Vol. 1
In the summer of 2017, Gerardo Ortiz churned out his most recent LP, ‘Comere Callado Vol. 1.’ The album showcased a different side of him and included a collection of sixteen highly addictive songs. Gerardo has now revealed that he will be coming to Phoenix to promote, ‘Comere Callado Vol. 1’ and will be playing a gig at the Celebrity Theatre.
