This amazing musical whose music is by the legendary Andrew Lloyd Webber follows the life of one of the most famous political figures of time. It is based upon the life of Eva Peron, a great political leader in Argentina as well as the wife of the president of Argentina, Juan Peron. It starts with the early life of this famous politician, philanthropist and activist chronicling her rise to the corridors to power. It also focuses on her amazing charity work and then the rest of life until the day she passed away. Evita started off as a superb concept album, a rock opera album released back in 1976. This album was very successful and it led to a production that then premiered on West End in London in 1978. Hardly a year had passed that this musical premiered on Broadway in New York City and soon became a national sensation in the US.

Evita the musical became to famous that a movie was made on it and released in 1996. This movie starred the greatest female pop artist of all time, Madonna, and one of the best known actors in Hollywood, Antonio Banderas. Since then, Evita has seen many productions and revivals on both Broadway and West End as well as several tours. Many cast albums have also been recorded and released; this is a musical that has, in short, the best music, the best story and the best acting ever seen. Evita started out when Tim Rice listened to the hit TV movie, Queen of Hearts by Carlos Pasini, a famous film director from Argentina on the Thames Television channel back in 1972. He was captivated by this film and went on to see it more than twenty times.

He then met up with the director, Carlos Pasini, and then heard yet another play on Eva Peron on radio. Soon after, he met Androw Lloyd Webber and started work on a musical based on the life of Eva Peron. He also started research on the life of Eva Peron and became more and more fascinated by her, traveling to Buenos Aires to perform research on her and even naming his first daughter after Eva Peron. The music for the musical was also spectacular in that it included Latin music flavors, paso dobles and tangos. As with Tim Rice’s previous musical, Superstar, an album for the musical was recorded with Julie Covington, a singer and actress, playing as well as singing the main role. This amazing album was released in 1976 and it featured Juan Peron voiced by Paul Jones, Che voiced by Colm Wilkinson and Barbara Dickson. It also involved Carlos Pasini who wrote some of the dialogue for the opening scene of the musical as well as in a number of other parts, resulting in a truly diverse musical.

To date, Evita has seen an original West End production, an original Broadway production and an original Madrid production. The Sunday Times has reviewed this musical as ‘quite marvelous’ and ‘an unparallelled fusion of 20th century musical experience’. The original West End production saw around two thousand and nine hundred performances whereas the original Broadway production saw around one thousand and five hundred performances. Numerous tours have taken place; four US tours, three UK tours and a world tour. In awards, Evita has won two Laurence Olivier Award, six Drama Desk Awards, one Outer Critics Circle Awards and seven Tony Awards; a record that makes Evita a must see through Evita Tickets.
