The Traditional Gathering
The curtain rises on a glittering Christmas tree at the Stahlbaum’s residence. The stage is full of laughing children including a young Clara who waits in anticipation for her favorite uncle. After all, he always brings her the best gift. As she opens a nutcracker from him, Clara gracefully glides and leaps around the stage, showing her excitement for the toy. The spirited duet that also features the rest of the family, guests and kids ends dramatically with the nutcracker breaking.
Soon the audience is taken into Clara’s dream that includes the Mouse King, Snow Queen and the soldiers of the nutcracker. This act bursts with energy, featuring the fight between the nutcracker prince and the mice army.
The Kingdom of Sweets is a sight to behold. Colorful costumes, beautiful choreography and the endearing Sugar Plum Fairy showing off her elegance. Presenting dance forms from various ethnicities including Russia, Spain and China, every performer shines in their roles.
Dayton Ballet’s The Nutcracker is a lavish Christmas spectacle that impresses with comedic elements, ingenious twists and turns and incredible techniques. Make sure you catch the production when it hits the stage in December.
