Born in 1943, John Denver began his musical career during the early sixties by joining a folk music group. After some success with the folk band 'Mitchell Trio', John ventured into solo career and released his debut album 'John Denver Sings' in 1966. The album was not a mainstream success but managed to put John in the limelight. He released his second studio album 'Rhymes and Reasons' in 1969 that climbed the UK Album chart at twenty-one position. The album also managed to chart on the Billboard 200 and was certified Silver status in the UK. Following the success of 'Rhymes and Reasons', John released two more albums during the same year in 1970, 'Take Me Tomorrow' and 'Whose Garden Was This'. The following year in 1971, John released his breakout album 'Poems, Prayers and Promises' that became an instant hit amongst the audience, propelling John towards international stardom. The album peaked at number six on the US Country Album chart where as number fifteen on the Billboard 200. It also charted well in Canada and UK. 'Poems, Prayers and Promises' comprised the hit song 'Take Me Home, Country Roads' that became a country sensation and John's signature song. The album was later certified platinum by the RIAA.

After the success of John's fourth studio album, he continued to produce chart-breaking albums and award winning music. He released a string of hit albums that were all certified Gold or higher status in the US including 'Aerie' (1971), 'Rocky Mountain High' (1972), 'Farewell Andromeda' (1973), 'Back Home Again' (1974), 'Windsong' (1975), 'Spirit' (1976), 'I Want To Live' (1977) and 'John Denver' (1979). Overall, John has released more than fifty albums including thirty studio releases, seventeen compilation albums and eight live albums. Apart from this, he has produced forty-four singles out of which twelve have reached number one position, making John one of the most celebrated country artists of all time. During his lifetime, John won numerous awards and accolades including Academy of Country Music Award for 'Album Of The Year', American Music Awards for 'Favorite Pop/Rock Male Artist', 'Favorite Country Album' and 'Favorite Country Artist', Country Music Association Award for 'Entertainer of the Year' and 'Song of the Year', one Emmy Award as well as two Grammy Awards. In 1996, John was inducted into the 'Songwriters Hall of Fame'.
