The Creative Genius of Irene Sankoff and David Hein

Come From Away is the creative brainchild of Irene Sankoff and David Hein who not only provided the music and lyrics of the show but also wrote the musical's book. The show is based on a true story and is set in the week following the 9/11 attacks when 38 airplanes were ordered to land in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada as a part of Operation Yellow Ribbon. The musical premiered at the Sheridan College in Oakville in 2013 before it  went on to have successful runs at San Diego's La Jolla Playhouse in 2015. A year later, it was performed at the Ford's Theatre in Washington and Royal Alexandria Theatre in Toronto.

Original Broadway Production   

In 2017, Come From Away debuted on Broadway at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre where it turned out to be a major critical and box office hit. It soon became the longest-running Canadian musical in the history of Broadway and also won one Tony and two Drama Desk Awards. Since its Broadway premiere, the show has gone on to be performed in Winnipeg, Dublin and Melbourne. It was also staged on West End.
