The Tale of A Christmas Carol
Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol is one of the most enduring holiday tales of all time. This is a story of Ebenezer Scrooge.
On a Christmas Eve in London, audience find Ebenezer Scrooge, a stingy aging business, sitting in his office counting his money. He receives a visit from solicitors who ask him for a donation for the poor. His response is that the only place for the poor is prison or death.
That night, Scrooge is visited by the ghost of his former business partner, Jacob Marley, who tells him if he doesn’t change his ways, he’ll be condemned to wear heavy chains for the rest of eternity.
Throughout the night, Scrooge is visited by three ghosts: the Ghost of Christmas Past, Present, and Future.
The Ghost of Christmas past takes him back to the days of his youth, when Christmas was full of joy and merriment. The Ghost of Christmas Present shows him being alone while everyone else is enjoying the celebrations. The Ghost of Christmas Future then offers him a glimpse of a world without him, when no one will care that he is dead and gone.

About the Walnut Street Theatre
The Walnut Street Theatre was founded in 1809 and is the oldest operating theatre in the English speaking world, as well as in the United States. It is also the official state theatre of Pennsylvania. The theatre is considered such an institution that is has been declared a National Historic Landmark. Each year, more than 55,000 people buy season ticket passes for the Walnut Street Theatre making it the most subscribed theatre company in the entire world.
In the many year since it’s opening, the Walnut Street Theatre has maintained its reputation as a trailblazer in the world of theatre. Many firsts in the American theatre scene took place at the Walnut Street Theatre. For instance, the Walnut was the first theatre in the country to install gas footlights, air conditioning, and introduce the concept of the curtain call.
