Written by Peter Sinn Nachtrieb, the play has won numerous accolades and honors since its debut. Peter has written many acclaimed shows that have garnered critical as well as commercial applause for their diversity and originality. Some of his eminent plays include Meaningless, Colorado, Hunter Gatherers, Trenchcoat In Common, Litter and BOB. His short plays include The Amorphous Blob, Killing My Lobster, Vows, Brink and Multiplex. His work has won numerous awards and honors for Peter such as "Steinfeld Award in Theatre", Jim Highsmith Award, Will Glickman Prize, "New Play Award" by American Theatre Critics Association, and Barrie and Bernice Stavis Award. Boom made its world premiere in 2008 in New York at Ars Nova. Alex Timbers directed the debut production of the show that was a hit amongst the audience as well as critics. Since then several productions of the show have been staged over the years. In 2010, the play was showcased in Florida at David A Straz Center. A Shimberg Playhouse production, the play was directed by Kari Goetz and featured Geneva Rae, Chris Holcom and Summer Bohnenkamp in the lead roles. In 2011, Off The Wall Productions also successfully managed to bring the hilarious show on Washington stages. A Michael E. Moats directed venture, the show saw Lauren Michaels, Matt Henderson and Rachel Downie playing Jo, Jules and Barbara respectively.
With a mission of inspiring our reality through their fiction, Interplayers Theatre manages to do just that and more. The performing arts center has been staging some of the most widely acclaimed productions for over three decades. Formed in 1980, the cultural hub was initially known as Spokane Interplayers Ensemble. A brainchild of Joan and Bob Welch, the center marked Inland Northwest's first ever professional resident theatre institute. The first production staged by the theatre was Elliot Nugent and James Thurber's The Male Animal. Since then, the center has seen highly talented Artistic Directors such as Karen Kalinsky, Wes Deitrick, Nike Imoru, and Robin Stanton. Currently, the performing arts center is led by Executive Director Pamela Brown and Artistic Director Reed McColm. Over the years, the theatre company has been granted several funds such as Harriet Cheney Cowles, Safeco Insurance, US Bank, Washington Trust Bank, Foundation Northwest, Washington State Arts Commission and the National Endowment for the Arts. Every season, the resident theatre company showcases more than ten new productions that charm theater lovers from around the globe. The company's repertoire comprises of titles such as Race, Opus, Honky Tonky Angels Holiday Spectacular, 39 Steps, Together Again for the Next Time, Taking Steps, An Infinite Ache, Mauritius, Tuna Does Vegas, Sisters of Swing, The Receptionist and The Boys Next Door.
