Ballet West ranks among the top professional ballet companies of the United States. After Willam F. Christensen trailed four other artistic directors namely Bruce Marks, John Hart, Jonas Kåge and Adam Sklute. In 1975, Mr. Christensen requested the brilliant American dancer Bruce Marks to become the Co-Artistic Director of the company. In 1978, Marks became the artistic director when Mr. Christensen retired. Under his new supervision and direction, two full length productions Swan Lake and Abdallah were created. In 1985, John Hart, the former dancer and Assistant Director of The Royal Ballet in England came to replace Bruce Marks. He preserved the classical heritage by including the nineteenth century classics like The Sleeping Beauty in the collection.

The year was 1997 when the world renowned dancer and choreographer, Jonas Kåge became the next artistic director. He revitalized the energy of the ballet by introducing the twentieth century choreographers like Hans van Manen, Christopher Bruce, William Forsythe and Glen Tetley. The current director Adam Sklute, has injected new energy and spirit into the seasonal classics by employing some of the notable choreographers like Ulysses Dove, Mark Morris, Jiri Kylian, Stanton Welch and Twyla Tharp. Skulte has a rich dancing career as he was the former dancer, Ballet Master and Associate Director of The Joffrey Ballet. He retains the classical legacy by including some of the historical pieces of the twentieth century. You will be carried back in time if you ever get a chance to watch it.
