About the Ballet West

The Ballet West is an American ballet company, which is based in the Salt Lake City area of Utah. The company was founded in 1963 by Willam Christensen, a pioneer of 20^th century ballet performances. Christensen was instrumental in helping shape a distinctly American flare to the profile of the Ballet West. Including Christensen, there have been five artistic directors at the company including Bruce Marks, John Hart, Jonas Kåge and presently Adam Sklute. Each of these individuals has helped to shape the eclectic, dynamic, and unique profile of the Ballet West.

Ballet West features an expansive troupe of over 40 lead dancers as well as 10 secondary dancers. The company also has an academy which focuses in training new dancers of all ages. Many of the individuals who have trained with Ballet West have gone on to become professional dancers and perform with major dance companies around the world.

Since its creation, Ballet West has established a reputation for itself as one of the top professional ballet companies in the country. In 1968, the Federation of Rocky Mountain States chose Ballet West to represent the group and therefore the company represented all of the western United States.
