The dance form of ballet is usually perceived in a cultural European setting, especially one stemming from Russia. Even when various ballet companies are established at different locales around the world, they strive to incorporate the traditional ballet vocabulary into their repertoire along with the themes and nuances that are ingrained within the various classical and contemporary works. However, the Ballet Folklórico de México defies the regimental norms that are otherwise arduously enforced by the artistic directors of the general spate of ballet companies, and instead infuses a cornucopia of Mexican cultural influences into its ballets. Brainchild of the renowned late Mexican dancer Amalia Hernández, Ballet Folklórico de México has been astounding audiences with its palette of vibrant performances for about six decades now and shows no signs of losing its colorful drive anytime soon. Book some Ballet Folklórico de México tickets to riddle your senses with shimmering sashaying and energetically expressive motions fueled by a rich Mexican cultural and mythological legacy.

Even before one can begin to encompass the formation and growth of Ballet Folklórico de México , one has to delve into the persona of its dynamic founder, Amalia Hernández. Growing up in the indigenous culturally rich environment of early twentieth century Mexico, Amalia wasn't exposed to the European styles of the performing arts as were the affluent girls of the northern neighbor, the United Sates. The determination of an eight year old Amalia melted the resolve of her regimental military man of a father and she was instructed in various styles of dancing all throughout her growing years. However, Amalia's free spiritedness could just not come to terms with the constraints imposed by the austere institution of Ballet and she aspired to create an entity that would be compatible with her unique sense of body rhythm.
Amalia Hernandez founded the Ballet Folklórico de México in 1952 to preserve Mexico's dancing traditions lest they dwindle way into the annals of history. Mexican dancing styles and the philosophy thus ingrained in them have espoused the native folklore that plays heavily on natural and animalistic themes. The symbiosis between life on earth and the order of things existing in the vastness of space have been incorporated into the various religious rites of the Mexican peoples that feature copious dance and musical facets.
The Ballet Folklórico de México arose to prominence in the 1960s and since then has developed a repertory of around 30 ballets and around five dozen folk dances. These unique works are not only a vibrant testament to Mexican cultural heritage but are also exemplary in their technical aspects as well as choreography and sophistic styling. Amalia's daughter, Norma Lopez Hernandez has also devoted her entire life to her mother's labor of love and contributed with her own passion and zeal into sustaining the dance company. The performances of the Ballet Folklórico de México at the Palacio de Bellas Artes have been especially organized by Norma. Even Amalia acknowledges her daughter's managerial prowess and her invaluable role in making Ballet Folklórico de México a global success and a proud cultural ambassador of Mexico.
The attention to detail that Ballet Folklórico de México has given to its ballets over the decades make them across as if the ancient Mayans or the Aztecs have themselves travelled through time and taken to the stage to express their reverence to their extraterrestrial deities. Some of their prominent ballets are The Great Tenochtitlan, Tarima from Tixtla, Zacatecas, The Deer Dance, La Zandunga, Dance of the Knives and the exotically named Tango of Seduction and Dance of Love . The costumes for these and numerous other dances were meticulously selected by Amalia from the rich tapestry of Mexican regional costumes and traditional wear. The choreography combines elements of astounding aesthetics and a careful study of the history and cultural nuances of each of the respective regional pieces. So claim your Ballet Folklórico de México tickets now for being immersed in a chasm of the eclectic energy flowing out from the synergy between song and dance.
