New York City Ballet has announced its fall schedule 2022 and it includes the All-Balanchine II program. Set to take place at the David H. Koch Theater on four nights, the ballet will be performed on October 5, 12, 13, and 15, 2022. New York City Ballet: All Balanchine II features diverse ballet styles, presenting the work of the “father of American ballet”, George Balanchine. From avant-garde ballet moves to sweeping elegance, All Balanchine II presents two varied styles by Balanchine, called “Episodes” and “Vienna Waltzes”. A feast for the eyes, both the dance forms can be enjoyed live with All Balanchine II Tickets. Choreography by George Balanchine, “Episodes” features music by Anton von Webern; whereas, “Vienna Waltzes” has its music by Johann Strauss II, Franz Lehar, and Richard Strauss.
George Balanchine – The Father of American Ballet
Considered one of the most influential choreographers of the 20th century, George Balanchine is the co-founder of the New York City Ballet, along with Lincoln Kirstein. Reimagining the principles of classical ballet, Balanchine’s style focuses on quick movements and flexibility of the upper body. His contemporary dance techniques bring to the stage dramatic choreography with distinct arm positions and arabesque positions. Balanchine’s passion for the performing arts has helped him produced timeless ballet classics and his legacy lives through the New York City Ballet.
New York City Ballet Presents Balanchine II
A ballet performance that features two popular dance forms by Balanchine, “All Balanchine II” is all about achieving dance aesthetics and high standards of excellence.
“Episodes” – Performed with sharpness and spellbinding clarity, Episodes is a four-part avant-garde style that paired Balanchine’s passion with choreographer Martha Graham’s enthusiasm. An abstract Black & White masterpiece, it is called leotard ballets by the dancers as it focuses on ballet in its raw form, stripping away glamorous costumes and stage setting. Focusing entirely on music and dance, Episodes offers depth and evolution of Balanchine’s ultra-modern creations.

“Vienna Waltzes” – A testament to grace, civility, and glamour, Vienna Waltzes is set against the backdrop of majestic Vienna and breathtaking Austrian forests. Displaying period costumes, the performances are enhanced with the use of regal mirrored ballroom setting and seductive lighting. The highlight of the ballet remains ‘pointework’, a classic Balanchine’s technique that incorporates neoclassical and light movements. Elaborate floor patterns and the dramatic swirls make Vienna Waltzes a beautiful affair.
