Motown Pioneers, The Temptations

R&B fans are aware of the impact The Temptations made when they were at their peak. The Motown pioneers released more than forty studio albums. For their music accomplishments they received several awards but the most prestigious one is the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award they were honored with in 2013.

Beginnings

The musical premiered at the Berkeley Repertory Theatre, California on August 31, 2017. Because of the positive response the run was extended till November 5.  It became the highest grossing production at the theatre. The Temptations made its Broadway debut in March 2019 at the Imperial Theater in New York.

The Musical

The jukebox musical has a book by Obie Award-winning playwright Dominique Morisseau and Des McAnuff serves as the director. The two hours and 30 minutes long musical (intermission 15 Minutes) traces the highs and lows of the greatest band of R&B. It shows how they emerged from humble beginnings from 1960's Detroit war torn streets and made it to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. The journey covers their meteoric rise and personal conflicts.
