The team currently plays its home games at the Louisville Slugger field. The franchise has been calling it home ever since 2000, before that it played its home games at the Cardinal Stadium. Ever since its move to Louisville back in 1982 as the Louisville Redbirds, the team has been enjoying sound fan support. Originally the team was formed back in 1966 as the Tulsa Oilers then the New Orleans Pelicans and then the Springfield Redbirds in 1978. In 1982, the Major League Baseball’s St. Louis Cardinals decided to move its America Association’s triple-A franchise, Springfield Redbirds to Louisville. After the move, the team was then renamed to Louisville Redbirds. During its inaugural season in 1982, the team managed to break all the previous attendance records of the minor league when it managed to attract more than 800,000 fans to the venue that year. The following year, the Redbirds became the very first minor league franchise to attract more than a million fans to the venue.

In 1998, after the American Association disbanded, the franchise was then moved to International League. As the International League grew and expanded towards Durham and Memphis; St. Louis Cardinals decided to shift its affiliate to Memphis, TN. Afterwards, the team became an affiliate of Milwaukee Brewers for 1998 & 1999 and after that Cincinnati Reds from 2000 onwards.

Since the team’s arrival in Louisville in 1982, the team played its home games at the Cardinal Stadium up until the 1999 season. With the capacity of seating well over 30,000 attendees, the Cardinal Stadium allowed the team to break the attendance records during its early years. In 2000, the team shifted its home from Cardinal Stadium to Louisville Slugger Field which has the seating capacity of 14,000.

Ever since it moved to the Slugger Field, the team has been able to lead league with its attendance records. During its affiliation with Brewers, the team was renamed to Riverbats, but later in 2002 the team dropped ‘River’ from its name and became the Louisville Bats.

Louisville Bats has been breaking attendance records for quite a few decades now, which is why it was named the fourth most valuable Minor League Baseball franchise by Forbes in 2012. So if you happen to be a fan of the team, keep showing your support for the team with Louisville Bats tickets.
