In the world of wrestling there is no organization bigger in terms of popularity and coverage then the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). One of the biggest and most popular events in the WWE universe is SummerSlam, which takes place every year in August.
The pay-per-view (PPV) event was first held in Madison Square Garden, New York in 1988. Since then, the event has been drawing crowds numbering in the thousands. SummerSlam is a part of the ‘Big Four’ events in the annual WWE calendar. The other three events are WrestleMania, Survivor Series and Royal Rumble. SummerSlam is the second most watched WWE event after WrestleMania.
The last six editions of SummerSlam were held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. This will thus be the first time since 2009 that SummerSlam will be held somewhere outside of Los Angeles.
The schedule of the event includes eight matches. The biggest and most hyped match of last year was the showdown between John Cena and Brock Lesnar. In an upset that shocked the WWE galaxy, Lesnar defeated John Cena to lift the WWE World Heavyweight Championship for the fourth time.
In addition to the network views, last year drew an audience of 147,000 people. The year before, attendance had been 296,000. This year the number could be even bigger as it is taking place in New York after a long time. So be sure to buy WWE Brooklyn tickets and be a part of all the excitement.
