The Worcester Railers have got the bit between their teeth now. Their inaugural campaign in the ECHL went better than many would have predicted and now it is time for them to take the next step.
A Little History
January 26, 2015 was the date when reports began to surface that the Worcester Sharks would re-locate to the city of San Jose to share the SAP Center with the San Jose Sharks, who were their patent club. Three years later the reports were confirmed by the Sharks.
That necessitated the formation of a new ECHL side for Worcester. So on February 8, 2016, the league made an official announcement that the city would be given an expansion team which would start to play from the 2017-2018 campaign. The logo and the name of the franchise was unveiled on April 3rd. Jamie Russell joined the Railers as the head coach on September 12, 2016.
The First Season
The Worcester Railers took to the rink for the first time ever on October 14, 2017 as they went on to beat the Monarchs 4-3 at home, the DCU Center. 12,135 fans turned up to watch the game live. The Railers won thirty seven games and recorded eighty two points. That record was good enough to land them a spot in the postseason when they lost to the Adirondack Thunder in the first round.
Now they are all set to play at home once again. You can make life difficult for opposing teams by booking your Worcester Railers Worcester MA tickets and turning up to the arena in big numbers.
