This name was then changed in 1923 after a historical and aggressive win against the Duke University Blue Devils. From then on, the WakeUniversity athletics program and its many teams have been known as the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. To date, when it comes to National Championships, the Wake Forest Demon Deacons have a record eight of them to their name in four college sports. And if that isn’t enough, half of these National Championships were won in six years, a record in American college sports.

The Wake Forest Demon Deacons are usually referred to as one of The Big Four, referring to the four best colleges in the state of North Carolina and the best programs within the Atlantic Coast Conference. The athletics director of the Wake Forest Demon Deacons, Ron Wellman, is also the recipient of several Athletic Director of the Year Awards, yet another sign of just how phenomenal this program is. Despite this, the Wake Forest Demon Deacons have managed to be regarded as one of the best football teams in the entire US, a feat to be proud of.
