The start
In the year 2009, reports first began to surface that the National Hockey League will soon give Las Vegas an expansion team. Nothing came out of that but in 2014 the reports began to resurface. Then in February of next year a season tickets drive began. The people who were interested in buying tickets for the new side had to stump up a 10% deposit. The figure to reach was 10, 000 deposits and the target was achieved fairly quickly.
The Golden Knights
Later that year, the NHL officially asked for proposals for new teams from interested parties. Bill Foley and the Maloof families were heading the bid for Las Vegas. Their hard work paid off and June 22, 2016 was the day when the league announced that an expansion team has been given to the Sin City.
George McPhee began the team’s first GM and on November 22, 2016 the official name of the franchise was announced. Now the hard work really begins. The new NHL season is just around the corner and the Golden Knights will be taking on some formidable opponents.
