Vancouver Whitecaps FC is a professional soccer club based in Vancouver, which competes in North America’s premier soccer league, the MLS. The Vancouver Whitecaps name has traditionally been associated with Canadian soccer and the current MLS franchise the third team to play under this name. The current franchise replaced the USSF Division 2 team which used the same name, though the owners of the two franchises are the same.

Brief History:

The Whitecaps played their first official season in the MLS in 2011. This was the first time since 1984 that the Whitecaps team played in the top tier of North American soccer.

In their first season, the Whitecaps finished ninth in the conference and did not qualify for the postseason. The team was runner ups in the Canadian Championship and finished third in the Cascadia Cup. 

The Whitecaps fared better in the next few seasons and became the first Canadian team to reach the playoffs of the MLS in 2012. The team won the Cascadia Cup in 2013 and 2014 and won the Canadian Championship in 2015.
