US Gymnastics Championship history dates back to the year 1963. It initially started as an unofficial event and the inaugural edition was held at "Park Ridge," Illinois. Since then it has been taking place every year at different venues. The prime sponsor of this championship since debut year is Visa Inc. The championship takes place over a period of one week and is usually held in the summers. Over the last five decades "US Gymnastics Championship" has taken place in places like Colorado Springs, Colorado, University of Illinois, Southern Illinois University, Georgia Southern University, Nassau Coliseum, University of Utah, Chicago, Columbus and Salt Lake City Utah. The 2012 event was held in St. Louis Missouri.

This year the US Gymnastics Championship will be held at the spacious XL Center in Hartford, Connecticut. This center is located on I Civic Center Plaza and has the capacity to accommodate around 16000 people. Along with the championship there will also be a Gymnastics National Congress and Trade Show at the Connecticut Convention Center.
