The greatest athletic division in NCAA history, the UCLA Bruins, is in a league of their own. The UCLA Bruins basketball team is one of the most popular sides in the athletics division. The men's basketball team began in 1920, with the women's team joining in 1974. The men's team has won an impressive eleven championships, with their most successful era coming under the tutelage of John Wooden, when they won an unprecedented ten titles in twelve years between 1964 and 1975. They are also the only team in history to go unbeaten during four consecutive seasons, from 1971 to 1974, with an unbelievable run of eighty-eight straight wins. There is an old adage that records are made to be broken, but this is one record that many people think no other team will ever be able to top. The UCLA Bruins basketball team also holds the distinction of producing the most NBA MVPs. After a few years of rebuilding, they have started to hit their stride under coach Ben Howland.
