One of the most legendary football teams from Canada is about to take the field once again. The Toronto Argonauts are out to stamp their authority on the Canadian Football League once again and this is your chance to book Toronto Argonauts tickets and see them do that live.

The start

The Toronto Argonauts Football Club came into formation way back in the year 1873. It was incepted as part of the Argonaut Rowing Club which itself was formed just a year earlier. That purpose behind the formation of the football club was to give members of the rowing club another sport to play in. Those members were interested in rugby and by the time 1874 rolled into town, they could become members of the football side by paying the rowing club.

There were some other teams that used to take part in the sport of football at the end of the nineteenth century. It was however the Argonauts, that became the biggest force in the sport. They started off by playing a few exhibition games every year. Their first ever encounter saw them take on the University of Toronto on October 11, 1873. The Argonauts lost the game. They took on the Hamilton Tigers in the next game and recorded their first ever win.

Formation of the ORFU and the IRFU

Then in the year 1883, the Argonauts teamed up with Hamilton Tigers, the Queen’s University of Toronto and the Ottawa Football Club to lay the foundations of the Ontario Rugby Football Union or ORFU. They went on to headline the championship game by taking on Ottawa and won the clash. They added another title to the collection in the year 1884.

They left the ORFU in the year 1907 and formed the Inter-provincial Rugby Football Union (IRFU). Other members included the Montreal AAA Football Club, the Ottawa Rough Riders and the Hamilton Tigers. The arrival of the Grey Cup in the form of a national championship in 1909 changed a lot of things. The Toronto Argonauts had to wait till 1914 to get their hands on the Grey Cup for the first time ever. They defeated the University of Toronto in that particular clash.

More success comes their way

The Hamilton Tigers clinched the Grey Cup in 1915 before the First World War ended football play for five seasons. The Argonauts clinched the Grey Cup once again in 1921. They repeated the trick in 1933 and won two more in 1937 and 1938 to cap off a very successful decade.

Play once again suspended, this time for three years (1942, 1943 and 1944) due to the Second World War. The Toronto Argonauts clinched the Grey Cup once again in 1945. They won the next two editions as well in 1946 and 1947. The Argonauts got their hands on another two Grey Cups during the 1950s. That was however as good as it got for them for over three decades.

The Argonauts bounce back

The Toronto Argonauts began to hit their stride once again in the 1980s and that resulted in them clinching the Grey Cup in the year 1983. After another lean patch, they once again bounced back to win three Grey Cups in the 1990s. The Argos cemented their status as one of the most dominant football teams in the country by winning the Grey Cup in 2004 and 2012.

A legacy to be proud of

The Toronto Argonauts have the distinction of being the oldest professional North American sports team that is still using the name it was using when it was formed. They have won the Grey Cup on sixteen occasions, which is a record. Their 72.7% winning percentage in championship encounters is also the best in history.

Now they are all set to make a concerted effort to reach those heights once again. If you want to be part of the ride, then book your Toronto Argonauts tickets and join in.
